Dog Adoptions Every Saturday and Sunday at PetSmart!

Every Saturday and Sunday from 11:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m., the Orange County Humane Society and  volunteers work at the Fredericksburg PetsMart getting local shelter dogs adopted.   The dogs are transported in our cargo van, the Pet Adoption Wagon, and brought in numerous crates and cages.  The dogs get a wonderful amount of exposure by being in the store for most of the weekend.  The store is full of people who are animal lovers and want to give a loving home to a homeless dog or cat.

Remember - we have cats for adoption 7 days a week at four PetSmart stores:  Fredericksburg (Central Park), Massaponax (Cosner's Corner), Culpeper (Bragg's Corner), and Manassas (Bull Run Shopping Center).  Each of these stores has a cat room with wonderful kitties available for adoption immediately.

All of the cats and dogs we bring to the store have been spayed or neutered, have had their rabies shot, a distemper/parvo shot and a kennel cough vaccination.   The fee to adopt a dog/puppy is $110. The fees to adopt a cat/kitten are $90.

Some of that fee goes to the Orange County Humane Society so that they can pay for veterinarian care and give rabies shots to other Shelter animals.  The remainder of the money goes to the Orange County Animal Shelter.  So when someone adopts at PetSmart, they are really helping twice:  they are saving the animal they are adopting and their fee is helping to save another animal waiting at the shelter.

Like to Help?

There are numerous ways that you can help this program.   Contact us by phone (540-672-0069), or email, ochumanesociety@hotmail.com .  We need volunteers to bathe and brush the PetSmart dogs, volunteers to help heartworm test, run animals to local vets and volunteers who are willing to help at PetSmart one day a month.  If you can do any one or all of these things, please let us know.  This program depends on the volunteers.  without them this program cannot continue.   You can truly make a world of difference in an animal's life.  This is a good volunteer opportunity for teenagers too!

You Can Make A Difference:

One Day there was a man waking along a beach after a storm. The storm had thrown up hundreds and hundreds of jellyfish onto the beach, where they would soon die.

As he waked further along the beach, he noticed a little girl picking up the jellyfish one by one and throwing them back into the ocean.

Why are you doing that? You are never going to save them all." You will never make a difference," said the man.

The little girl continued to pick up the fish and throw them back into the water. As she threw one in she looked at the man and said, "Made a difference to that one."
